A Short History of Carvoeiro
A town steeped in history that dates back to Roman times, its name is thought to come from “Caboiere” – the word used for an Islamic-Medieval fishing settlement. From Moorish occupation to pirate attacks, the town’s certainly seen its fair share of action, the remnants of which can still be witnessed to this day. Examples include the ruins of a fort as well as the Chapel of Our Lady of the Incarnation to the East of Carvoeiro beach, which is believed to pre-date the fort.
